The Bunker Diary Nominated for the 2016 Sakura Medal

Kevin Brooks’ novel has been nominated for the High School English category

A reading programme carried out in 22 international schools across Japan, the Sakura Medal was introduced to encourage the reading and enjoyment of quality books. The Medal’s shortlisted books, which are chosen by library media specialists in all participating schools, are read by thousands of international school students reading in English and Japanese, and this year The Bunker Diary has been nominated.

The Bunker Diary, winner of the Carnegie Medal in 2014, has received widespread praise and has led to Brooks’ being named ‘a cult among teens’ by Amanda Craig of The Times.

Voting for the Sakura Medal will take place at the end of April, with winners being announced in May. Past winners include The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin and Divergentby Veronica Roth.
