Caz Frear wins the Richard and Judy Search for a Bestseller Competition
Caz Frear wins the 2017 Search for a Bestseller competition with her crime thriller, 'Sweet Little Lies'.
Richard and Judy launched the second Search For a Bestseller competition in March 2016 in conjunction with WHSmith and Bonnier Zaffre. Entrants were initially judged on a sample of 10,000 words and a synopsis, with a shortlist of eight being announced in July 2016. Caz fought off strong competition to emerge the winner. She has been awarded a publishing contract with Bonnier Zaffre and representation by Furniss Lawton.
The winner of the last competition, Tracy Rees’ historical novel Amy Snow, has been published in eight territories and sold upwards of 100,000 copies.
Caz Frear’s Sweet Little Lies navigates between contemporary London and 1990s Ireland. Police detective Cat Kinsella investigates the murder of Alice Lapine – but when the girl’s body is found near the pub Cat’s father runs, evidence emerges linking Alice to another girl who disappeared in Ireland 18 years ago. Buried secrets and old resentments threaten to erupt.
“The competition was tough but Caz Frear was the stand out choice to us,” Richard and Judy explained. “Her storytelling ability, distinctive voice and fantastic grasp of character really impressed us. An exciting new talent has entered the world of crime fiction.”
Sweet Little Lies will be published in July 2017.
