Sam Warburton is Named Lions Captain!

Congratulations to Sam who was today named Lions Captain, the pinnacle of British and Irish rugby! Becoming only the second player to lead the side on a Tour twice, the Welsh international rugby union Flanker played incredibly at the recent Six Nations Championship and is now looking forward to leading the Lions on the New Zealand Tour this summer in this coveted role.

The player explained the honour he feels at being only the second person to lead a second Tour: “It is hard to put it into words. Four years later 2013 [the 2-1 series win against Australia] hasn’t really sunk in.

“We had a dinner last night with the ex-captains of the Lions and it was only when I sat down to see the company I was in that I realised.

“That was when it hit home how big a deal it is and this time against New Zealand is arguably the toughest tour.”
