Shortlist for Richard & Judy’s ‘Search for a Bestseller’ Announced

Five authors have now been selected for the ‘Search for a Bestseller’ shortlist.

Supported by WHSmith, the shortlisted authors have been asked to submit their completed novels to the Richard & Judy’s ‘Search for a Bestseller’ panel by the 28th December, with the winner being announced in January.

The winner will receive a £30,000 Bonnier Zaffre world rights publishing deal and specialist advice from Furniss Lawton, with the novel being published by the former in the summer of 2019.

“We’re hugely excited to now have our five-strong shortlist – and what a shortlist it is!” Richard and Judy commented. “We can’t wait to read the finished debut novels, select our ‘search for a bestseller’ competition winner and introduce readers to a fantastic new writer.”

The five authors chosen are:

At the Laurels by Victoria Stewart

An evocative English mystery set between the wars.

Home to Roost by Claire Gradidge

Historical crime about a woman who returns to her home town for the first time in twenty-six years and discovers a family secret.

The Other Side of Heaven by Tracy Fells

Contemporary fiction with a generations old family secret at its heart – the key to which is hidden in the paintings of an enigmatic WW2 woman artist.

Madeleine by Mary Annes Payne

Historical fiction set in France during World War II about a nun who is active in the Resistance.

The Other Boy by Andrea Hicks

A psychological thriller about a couple who buy an old mill with a dark history that might have repercussions for their future.

Good luck to all who have been shortlisted.
