Julian Clary


Julian has written four books: A Young Man's Passage, Murder Most Fab, Devil in Disguise and his latest novel, Briefs Encountered, which was published by Ebury in 2012.

Julian’s TV break came in 1989 with an ITV quiz show called ‘Trick or Treat’. Then, following an appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’, Channel 4 offered him his own show, ‘Sticky Moments’ (1990-91). Many other TV shows followed, including: ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ (’04 BBC), ‘Come And Have a Go’ (’05 BBC Lottery show), ‘Have I Got News For You’ (’06 BBC), ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ (’06 BBC), ‘QI’ (’06 BBC), ‘The Under Dog Show’ (’07 BBC), and ‘Monte Carlo or Bust’ (’10, ITV).


Julian is a regular panelist on Radio 4′s ‘Just a Minute’ and is also the voice of the narrator in ‘The Little Princess’ animated series. A three part celebration of the life of Douglas Byng called ‘The Byng Ballads’ was broadcast on Radio 4 in November 2010.


Julian continues to tour the UK and Australia with his one man shows, including ‘Lord of the Mince’ and ‘Position Vacant – Apply Within’. He also appeared in Leigh Bowery in Boy George’s ‘Taboo’ and the Emcee in Rufus Norris’s Olivier Award winning production of Kander and Ebb’s ‘Cabaret’. In September 2012 Julian won ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ (Channel 5).


His next book, The Bolds, is a children’s novel and will be published in August 2015.
