Mary Portas is 4th in Sunday Times Bestseller list

Mary Portas' memoir Shop Girl has entered the Sunday Times bestseller list at #4

Portas was born into a large Irish family living in a small semi-detached home in Watford. A college course in visual merchandising eventually led to her dressing the windows in Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Portas is credited with turning Harvey Nichols from a staid department store into a fashion powerhouse.

Reviews of Mary Portas’ Shop Girl

“I can think of no greater praise for this early memoir than the fact that I’d be very happy to read the second one.” Barbara Ellen, The Guardian

“Every joke, argument, cake baked, tenderness proffered, sings off the page. “To my mum (How lucky was I getting you)” is the book’s dedication. And we are lucky to read it.” Liz Hoggard, The Independent

“This is a light but affecting read with an inspiring heroine at its heart. Read it then give it to your daughter.” **** Jennifer Lipman, The Daily Express
