Anna Dixon joined YMU in 2021, where she continues to generate book projects with talent from all areas of the entertainment industry. She is continuing to build a list of writers including both platform-led and traditional authors.

Anna started her publishing career as an Agent’s Assistant at Abner Stein in 2015, helping to sell UK & Commonwealth rights for their client list of US agencies. She then moved to WME, first as an assistant, then representing US clients for their UK business, and later starting to build her UK-based list. Her work at WME also included in-house editorial support on clients such as Ann Leary, Kim Edwards, Aimee Phan, Evan Winter and Lev Grossman. She also generated talent-led projects with roster clients from other areas of their entertainment business, a number of whom found Sunday Times bestselling success.

What I’m looking for

I’m after fiction, non-fiction and the occasional children’s project (middle-grade & YA only). In fiction, I love emotive and surprising character building, realistic yet complex relationships, folklore, re-tellings of stories we think we know from a new angle, science fiction and fantasy, crime and thriller, women’s fiction with bite and black humour, magical realism, and anything dark and twisty. My non-fiction taste leans towards the narrative, and I adore investigative journalism, true crime and issue-led projects. I like upmarket voice-led memoir as well, and I also enjoy any non-fiction project that feels inherently helpful and change-making.

In the last year, I’ve enjoyed reading: How To Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie; Rules For Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall; All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque; The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates; The Things We Do To Our Friends by Heather Darwent; and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin (yes, we all loved it). I’m currently loving Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, for which I was very late to the party, and I’m also re-reading (I love a re-read!) Circe by Madeline Miller.
